Quinceanera 15 Candle ceremony
After months of planning and anticipation, the day is finally here. The Quince girl has been honored by her guests and family during her own unforgettable church service and now she is ready to celebrate and party with her family and her court.
Every part of a Quinceanera’s day is special and exciting. One of the most heart warming and touching moments during her day is the lighting of her Quinceanera 15 candles. This ceremony can take place at any point during her day, but is traditionally done as part of the mass ceremony while in the church. In some places this tradition will include the Quince girl’s parents, godparents and some of the damas and chamberlains, each lighting one of the quinceanera 15 candles. After the Quince girl has spoken her prayer of Dedication, she will continue to use the flame of her parents candle to light her own final candle.
Some families decide this ceremony is better suited and easier to incorporate into the celebration after dinner and before the Quinceanera’s cake is served. It is tradition for the members of the quinceanera’s court to come forward and light each candle while giving a blessing to the Quinceanera herself.
Recently however, some Quince girls have opted for a less formal feel when they plan their quinceanera 15 candle ceremony. These Quince girls prefer to have the candles placed in candelabras already lit, inviting not just the court, but anyone who she feels close to, to come forward and blow out any candle while making a silent wish for her future. The quinceanera can also prepare a few kind words of gratitude to read for each of the guests as they come forward to blow out their candle. This helps to make this memorable tradition even more meaningful for participating family and friends.
